Here are five illustrators that I believe each display a message within their work:
Steve Bell
Bell creates political cartoons for the Guardian newspaper. These obviously carry a message within each strip. There are things that I like about how he creates characters of politicians e.g. George Osbourne is a gimp and David Cameron is a giant condom.
Mr Bingo
Mr Bingo interests me as he creates work with content that is purposely offensive. I could fully understand why people wouldn't like his work but it amuses me highly…
Reza Farazmand
Poorly Drawn Lines by Farazmand is a series of sequential images that generally comment on common day tropes in a childish way. Very basic, very enjoyable.
Ralph Steadman
Steadman has been a hero of mine for years. His work is very dark and humorous. He's got a brilliant haphazard technique that I would love to practise. Over the years he has done a range of illustrations for children's books to political commentary.
Gerald Scarfe
Perhaps as famous as Steadman, Scarfe's political commentary is legendary. I was introduced to his work last year and love how he manages to capture just how ridiculous current politics is.
